Polypropylene (PP) is a thermoplastic “addition polymer” made from the combination of propylene monomers. It is used in a variety of applications to include packaging for consumer products, plastic parts for various industries including the automotive industry, special devices like living hinges, and textiles.

Homopolymers and Copolymers are the two main basic types of polypropylene available in the market.

Propylene Homopolymer is the most widely utilized general-purpose grade. It contains only propylene monomer in a semi-crystalline solid form. Main applications include packaging, textiles, healthcare, pipes, automotive and electrical applications.

Polypropylene copolymer family is further divided into random copolymers and block copolymers produced by polymerizing of propene and ethane.

Polypropylene (PP) in Turkmenistan

According to the State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan, the level of use of production facilities for the production of polypropylene in the Turkmenbashi complex of oil refineries (TKNPZ) reached 93.5%. This demonstrates the excellent technical condition of the plant and the availability of high quality raw materials.

In 2017, TKNPZ produced 84.1 thousand tons of polypropylene, while the task was to produce 82.5 thousand tons. Export of polymer in 2017 amounted to 62.3 thousand tons, and its unrealized balances in the market decreased by 31%, amounting to 2.9 thousand tons. The latter indicates a competent production plan that takes into account real demand and supply.

Turkmenistan began the sale of polypropylene (PP) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) from a new gas chemical complex in the village of Kiyanly (Balkan region, Turkmenistan).

The plant will annually process 5 billion cubic meters of natural gas and produce 386,000 tons of polyethylene and 81,000 tons of polypropylene.
